Jive

Swing dance lessons Jive is the most energetic of all the dances. Though similar to the American East Coast Swing, Jive puts emphasis on upbeats rather than downbeats. Jive has triple steps and rock steps, like American Swing. The knees are lifted high in the basic movement to emphasize the upbeats in the music.  This dance is playful and energetic in nature. It was made famous in Europe in the 1940’s to Big Band music.

Popular patterns include:

  • The Release Break
  • Underarm Turns
  • Kick steps

Jive is danced on the balls of the feet most of the time which makes it a very athletic dance! Therefore, it is done mostly in competition.
