Mambo
Mambo came from Cuba in the 1940’s and has exciting, infectious rhythm. It became popular when Perez Prado introduced his music in a nightclub in Havana in 1943. Mambo expresses its emphasis on the “2”. Although the idea of the basic is similar to that of the Salsa, Mambo structure is driven more by the beats and not by the lyrics. It has Cuban motion like the other Latin dances, and is not as relaxed in form as the Salsa. Popular patterns include:
